First Aid at Work – Level 3

This qualification is for individuals who deal with emergency first aid at work enabling them to be workplace emergency first aiders under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Learning Outcomes
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Take appropriate actions in the event of an emergency occurring at work
  • Be able to conduct a primary and secondary survey
  • Use cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods, including use of an AED
  • Provide first aid to an unconscious casualty
  • Provide first aid to a choking casualty
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Recognise and carry out correct actions to take control of wounds and bleeding
  • Recognise and carry out correct actions for shock
  • Describe the treatment of medical emergencies i.e: chest pain, seizures, breathing difficulties, blood sugar imbalance and fainting
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding, suspected injuries to chest, bones, muscles and joints
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns, scalds, eye injury and poisoning
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
